The Cockatoos we see here are in many ways typical of the birds in rescue centres like ours around the globe. The fact that Cockatoos are so intelligent, beautiful & comical has been their undoing in captivity. They are by far the loudest of the bird species we choose to live with, a Cockatoo can get you evicted because of the noise. They are often cuddly creatures often refered to as "velcro birds" because they need to be with their chosen one all the time. The reality is that few people can tolerate the level of noise cockatoo will belt out, fewer can maintain the level of interaction they truley need to be content. WE NEVER RE-HOME COCKATOOS. Breeder can charge up to £2000 for a hand reared Cockatoo, STOP them from profiting on the misery- Dont Buy from them. If they cant sell their babies it will discourage them from breeding more. | Cockatoos really do require special care from experienced carers. They can quickly change teperament & I have seen injuries they have inflicted on people & they are serious- peolpe have needed stitches & a small child who stuck her finger in a cage occupied by an angry Moulacan lost her fingertip- this bird had never bit before. |
