Living with a parrot is not for everyone, the reality often turns out to be a nightmare for some people, parrots require a great amount of specialized care, this is expensive, time consuming & requires you to make sacrifices to your lifestyle. People often cant cope with the noise, the mess, the expense, the sheer comitment. Others give up hope when their cudlly tame hand reared babies turn into confused, aggresive, hormonal teenagers with an identity crisis. Parrots can quickly develop unsociable behaviours & without training it becomes impossible for them to live happily in a family home. Some have been ignored, abused or neglected & these parrots need even more extra special care & attention, adapted equiptment very expensive vet treatment over long periods of time.

Parrots are wild animals living in captivity & need to be treated appropriatly.

Parrots are loud, messy, destructive creatures & can live up to 80 years.

Parrots need an enviroment which suits them, you cant change their behaviour to suit your home.

Parrots can be aggressive & have inflicted serious injury.

Parrots need a very large area in which to live & play, this enviroment needs to be interesting & meet strict hygiene standards.

Parrots need a lot of interaction & stimulation.

Parrots need a species specific diet which needs to be prepared & sometimes cooked.

Parrots benefit hugely from living with other parrots.

There is a huge overpopulation of companion CAPTIVE birds in the U.K & across the world.

Why adopt rather than buy?

Every parrot I have worked with has its own personality but I do see & hear the same thing over & over-" my cuddly handreared baby has turned into a monster" this happens because hand reared babies are human imprinted which means as they start to mature they often experience a kind of identity crisis- parrot instincts vs human behaviours. This results in aggression, feather plucking, over bonding to the point of severe seperation anxiety. Being taken away from their parents too soon causes all sorts of psychological issues which only surface later in life.Young parent reared parrots, ready to leave the parents & well socialised are a far kinder option.

Buying a parrot from a private seller is an option, but please be aware many of these birds are being sold for a reason- a reason the seller may not always want you to know.If you adopt the parrot will have had a full evaluation- you know exatly what you are getting yourself into -any problems the parrot may have will have been identiyfied & steps & training will be in place to help resolve any issues.

There are many, many amazing parrots right now looking for the right person to change their life forever. There are parrot with long term disabilities who will reward your exrta special attention with their love & trust.

There are young parrots who love life, have lots of energy & are ready to begin their adventure with you, elderly birds looking for a quiet, stable home to live out their days in comfort.

Some birds have lacked human attention & need training & working with to enhance their lives with love & trust. Some parrots love to cuddle & need a person to call their own!

Every parrot deserves a family- not every family deserves a parrot.
